Open the Bluetooth function of the mobile terminal, and then connect our device ‘Ear Tag Reader’.

Open the notes(for example), create a new or open an existing note, the blinking cursor notice that the equipment is ready for receiving data from the reader.

What the R901 Bluetooth RFID scanner is

The R901 is a handheld low-frequency RFID reader with a Bluetooth link. It works at 134 kHz and reads FDX-B animal identification tags to the ISO 11784 and 11785 standards, the ear tags and implantable transponders used in livestock and pet identification. The reader shows the tag's ID on its own screen and sends it to a phone, tablet or PC over Bluetooth, so an ID can be captured into a spreadsheet, a note or farm software in the field. It is an ABS-bodied wand with an IP57-rated head, a 3000 mAh battery rated for about 20 hours of use, and a reading range of roughly 5 to 8 cm to an ear tag, as listed in the specification above.

How the Bluetooth link works

The R901 pairs as a Bluetooth keyboard. Once it is connected to a phone or computer, you open any app that accepts text (Notes, a spreadsheet, a database field), put the cursor where the ID should go, and each scan types the tag number into that field followed by a line break. Because it emulates a keyboard, no special driver or SDK is needed on the host: if the device has Bluetooth and a text field, it works. Confirm the host device and the app you intend to type into before ordering.

What it reads, and what it does not

The R901 is a low-frequency FDX-B reader. It reads 134 kHz animal tags to ISO 11784/11785; it does not read 13.56 MHz NFC or MIFARE cards, nor UHF tags, because those are different frequencies and protocols. If you need to read or write high-frequency NFC and MIFARE, DESFire or NTAG chips, that is a different class of reader; see the next section.

Choosing a reader across the range

Use the R901 for 134 kHz animal ID in the field. For 13.56 MHz NFC and MIFARE, DESFire or NTAG cards and tags we supply desktop readers: the µFR Classic CS when you write encoding software against its free SDK, and the ACR122U for existing PC/SC software, plus the newer ACR1252U and ACR1552U from ACS for new PC/SC designs. The R901 and our other readers are quote-only. Tell us the tag standard you need to read (134 kHz FDX-B for the R901), the host device you will pair with, and the quantity. We have supplied RFID hardware since 2008; standard samples are free and standard lead time is 2 to 3 weeks, with pricing by quotation.
