Proud Tek Research

primary RFID and NFC industry studies

Composite of Proud Tek research artifacts: methodology brief on tablet, survey question bank, anonymized respondent dataset, industry adoption chart, downloadable PDF report

Quick answer

Proud Tek Research is the primary-data arm of Proud Tek's editorial program: longitudinal, vendor-neutral studies of how RFID and NFC adoption is moving inside the 20 verticals we serve. The flagship study is the annual Proud Tek RFID Industry Adoption Index — a survey of 200 buyers, integrators and operators across retail, healthcare, hospitality, pharmaceutical, logistics, libraries, agriculture, aerospace, defense, EU compliance and 10 more verticals — published every May. All instruments, anonymized respondent counts, weighting and analysis code are released under CC-BY-4.0 so journalists, analysts and procurement teams can reproduce or extend the findings. This hub lists the active research program, the methodology stack, the open-data assets, and the upcoming publication calendar.

  • Annual primary-data flagship: Proud Tek RFID Industry Adoption Index — N=200, 20 industries × 10 respondents per industry, published May.
  • Vendor-neutral methodology: independent recruitment, GDPR/CCPA-compliant consent, anonymized raw data published under CC-BY-4.0 for full reproducibility.
  • Cited by journalists, analysts and procurement teams; pairs with the 20 /industries/ landing pages where the per-vertical findings become buying recommendations.

Methodology principles

All Proud Tek Research is built on five non-negotiable principles. They exist to make the findings usable by people who otherwise wouldn't trust a manufacturer-published study.

  • Vendor-neutral recruitment. Respondents are not asked to evaluate Proud Tek or our products. Recruitment happens via LinkedIn Sales Navigator, industry conferences, third-party panels (e.g. Centiment, Prolific) and trade-association directories.
  • Pre-registered analysis plan. Every study's analysis plan (hypotheses, primary outcomes, planned cross-tabs, exclusion rules) is published before fieldwork starts and timestamped at /research/{study}/preregistration/.
  • GDPR / CCPA consent. Every respondent signs an electronic consent form covering data use, retention, anonymization and right-to-withdraw. Form template at /research/methodology/consent/.
  • Open data. After 90 days of exclusive publication, the anonymized respondent-level dataset is released as CSV under CC-BY-4.0 at /research/{study}/data/. Researcher requests during the exclusivity window are honored.
  • Reproducible analysis. Analysis code (R or Python) is published alongside the dataset so any finding can be re-run by a third party.

Why Proud Tek publishes original research

Strategic logic, not a vanity exercise. The annual study is the single highest-leverage off-page asset we ship.

RFID buyers face a market where the same vendors publish the same marketing copy. Independent third-party research (Auburn ARC, RAIN Alliance, RFID Lab, Zebra Hospital Vision Study, Axia Institute) gets cited by Perplexity, Bing Copilot, ChatGPT Search and the trade press because it presents primary data the audience can't get anywhere else. Proud Tek wants to be in that citation graph.

The annual Adoption Index is designed so its findings answer the questions buyers are actually typing into AI search engines: 'how many retailers are deploying RFID in 2026?', 'what is the realistic ROI on a hospital RFID rollout?', 'which industries are furthest behind on FSMA 204 compliance?'. By publishing first-party answers to those queries, Proud Tek becomes the citation.

FAQ

Who funds Proud Tek Research?

Proud Tek funds the program in-house. We do not accept sponsored research from RFID hardware peers, integrators, or end-user clients, and we do not run paid placements inside published findings. The cost (under USD 30,000 per flagship study, dominated by third-party panel fees and statistician time) is treated as marketing R&D. Funding transparency is published in the methodology appendix of every report.

How is Proud Tek Research different from analyst firms like IDC, Gartner or Forrester?

Three differences. (1) Open data. Our anonymized respondent-level data is released under CC-BY-4.0 after a 90-day exclusivity window; analyst firms typically license summary-level access for USD 5,000–50,000 per report. (2) Vendor-neutral. We do not include Proud Tek-favorable questions or rank vendors; analyst Magic Quadrant–style outputs typically include vendor positioning. (3) Industry-specific depth. We sample 10 respondents per vertical across 20 verticals; analyst surveys are usually 5–10× larger but only resolved to 2–4 super-segments.

Can I see the questionnaire before I take it?

Yes. The full instrument is posted at /research/2026-rfid-industry-adoption-index/instrument/ before recruitment opens and remains public throughout fieldwork. Respondents see the same instrument we publish. This is part of the pre-registration discipline — if the public instrument and the actual fielded instrument differ, the study is invalid.

How can I participate as a respondent?

Two ways. (1) If we have not yet reached you and you fit the buyer / integrator / operator persona for your industry, register interest at /research/participate/ — we recruit on a rolling basis and prioritize matching to under-sampled industries. (2) If you receive a direct outreach from peter-zhang@proudtek.com or via a recognized panel partner (Centiment, Prolific, third-party trade-association directory), reply with your industry — the link in the message routes you to the right industry-specific survey path.

How is data quality enforced?

Five layers. (a) Recruitment screener verifies industry, role and decision authority before the substantive questionnaire opens. (b) Attention-check questions placed mid-instrument; failed responses are excluded. (c) Straight-line response detection on Likert batteries. (d) Completion-time outlier removal (top 2% and bottom 2%). (e) IP-address + email-domain deduplication. Final analytic sample sizes published per study are the post-exclusion counts; pre-exclusion counts and exclusion rates are documented in the methodology appendix.
