Inside the line: how an NFC tag is manufactured
A datasheet makes an NFC tag look like one part; the factory floor knows it is five. Here is how a bare NXP wafer becomes an encoded, read-tested tag on our line — antenna first, silicon second, and the QC read-test that decides whether a unit ships at all. Nothing in this sequence is subcontracted to a job shop, which is why a program that mixes form factors can still ship on one production traveler.
- 1. Antenna
The aluminium or copper antenna is etched or printed onto a PET or paper web and matched to the target chip and surface — the geometry that decides read range is set here, not bought off a shelf.
- 2. Chip bonding
NXP wafers are flip-chip bonded to the antenna to form the inlay, with an originality-signature check so the silicon on the line is the silicon on the quote.
- 3. Converting
Inlays are laminated wet or dry and die-cut to size, delivered on continuous rolls in standard pitches for label converters or singulated for hard-tag assembly.
- 4. Printing & finishing
Full-colour artwork is offset-, screen- or digitally printed and laminated; epoxy and anti-metal tags are domed or molded into their housings.
- 5. Encoding & QC
NDEF records or NTAG 424 DNA SUN messages are written inline, every unit is 100% read-tested, and a batch report with chip response and read-range data ships with the order.

Do you manufacture OEM and ODM NFC tags under our brand?
Yes — OEM and ODM are the core of what a factory does. For OEM we build to your drawings and print your artwork and packaging with no Proud Tek marking; for ODM we develop a tag to your functional spec — chip, antenna, substrate and encoding — from scratch. Your design files and encoding scheme are locked on the production traveler and kept on file so reorders are identical.
Can you design a custom antenna or inlay for our surface?
Yes. Where a catalogue inlay will not tune to your material — glass, metal, a curved bottle or a small on-metal footprint — our RF engineers design a new antenna and prototype it against your real surface and reader, typically in 5-7 days, then read-range test it before the antenna is committed to tooling.
Can you supply NFC tags pre-encoded and locked?
Yes. We write NDEF records — static or UID-personalised URLs, vCards, Wi-Fi credentials or app-launch records — inline during production, and can lock pages read-only after encoding so the data cannot be overwritten. For NTAG 424 DNA we configure the SUN mirror and your backend URL so each tap produces a fresh cryptographic signature. Every encoded unit is 100% read-verified.
What are your NFC tag manufacturing MOQs, and can I sample first?
Free samples come first: 5-10 encoded tags of any type so you can test before you buy. For production, printed NFC stickers start around 500 pieces, wet or dry inlay rolls around 1,000 pieces, and epoxy or hard tags around 200 pieces, with plain stock tags from 100 pieces for pilots — but the exact minimum depends on chip, size and encoding, so we quote it per program. Send your spec and target volume for written MOQ and pricing.
Do you manufacture NFC inlays on rolls for label converters?
Yes. We manufacture wet inlays on continuous rolls with standard pitch spacing (16 mm, 18 mm or custom) compatible with major converting lines from Mühlbauer, Melzer and BIELOMATIK, in narrow-web (50-80 mm) and wide-web (200-320 mm) widths. Tell us your converting equipment and we match the pitch and web width to it.
